The Cultivation of Organic Nilam

organic nilamNilam (Pasgotemi spp) belongs to the family of Labiate. It is an important species in the cosmetic world since its oil is an aromatic substance (fragrant oil, patchouli oil) used in cosmetics. In Indonesia, there are Nilam Aceh (Pagostaman cabilin Benth), Nilam Jawa (P. Heyneaus), and Nilam Kembang (P. Haetensisi Backer) considered as the famous ones. Among those three species, nilam from Aceh Province (Tapaktuan District), Sidikalang and Tapanuli Utara (North Sumatra Province) are the most commercial one since they produce oil at least 2.5 liter. It means of 100 kg wet distilled leaves through cohobating system will optimally produce 2.5 liter of nilam oil.
