AsiaDHRRA, together with other regional CSO partners in SAPA, participated in the ASEAN Civil Society Conference 2007 held in Singapore in October 27-28 organized by the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA), a member of the ASEAN ISIS network. The conference was aimed to allow further participation by more groups in ASEAN, as called for by ASEAN leaders and ministers; provide substantive discussions that can be usefully fed into the ASEAN Summit in November 2007 and regularize participation in the ASEAN through the role of the ASEAN Secretariat. The event was attended by His Excellency, Ong Keng Yong, ASEAN Secretary-General.
AsiaDHRRA co-lead the discussion of the roundtable on ASEAN Economic integration highlighting the serious impacts of an integration that is unmindful of the dire situation and meaningful participation of the affected marginalized rural sectors, and offering a framework that is deemed more responsive to the calls for a people-oriented economic integration that benefits all, especially the poor and the least developed countries in ASEAN.
