Oriental Mindoro, Philippines – Matulatula Agrarian Reform Community Cooperative (MARCCO) convened the 2017 Calamansi Producers Congress on 28 July 2017 in Oriental Mindoro. It was attended by representatives from government agencies, the private sector, civil society organizations, and local farmers’ organizations. The event was made possible with support by AsiaDHRRA.
The congress served as venue for calamansi producers to share the challenges confronting them; and, to support from national and local government agencies to rehabilitate calamansi plantations in the province and to provide necessary support for small farmers to participate in the value chain.
During the Congress, MARCCO, in partnership with AsiaDHRRA, also initiated a side event, entitled: “The Young Farmers Forum: The Role of the Youth in the Agricultural Sector”. MARCCO is being supported by AsiaDHRRA under the Farmers Fighting Poverty (FFP) program.
