Regional Consultation Workshop on Farmers' Situation

AsiaDHRRA, in cooperation with AFA, PAKISAMA and PhilDHRRA will assist in facilitating the “Regional Consultation Workshop on Farmers’ Situation: Responding to Major Difficulties Faced by Farmers in Asia” on June 12-15, 2007 at the SEAMEO INNOTECH Center in Commonwealth Avenue, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines.
The consultation-workshop aims to facilitate the (1) sharing of the over-all farmer’s situation in their countries, focusing on two major difficulties that they face; (2) enhance their understanding of issues of farmers from other countries; and (3) come up with very concrete on-ground action plans that respond to the difficulties shared by the farmers.
The forum will be attended by around 50 participants, with 20 coming from other countries, who are members of AFA.
On June 13, there will also be a forum-dialogue on WTO, ASEAN Charter, and EU-ASEAN FTA concerns. It will be followed by a solidarity night. Both activities will be attended by local and regional NGOs and POs.
On June 14, there will be a field visit to the area of the Samahan ng mga Magsasaka sa Bundok ng Antipolo (SAMBA), a local farmer organization belonging to PAKISAMA, in Sitio Nagpatong, Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City.
