Tacloban City, Philippines – PAKISAMA, with support from AsiaDHRRA, conducted a round table discussion on “Enhancing Participation of People’s Organizations in Building Back Better Public Programmes” on 11-12 May 2015. The discussion aims to understand the various programs of the government related to the rehabilitation of communities affected by the Super Typhoon Yolanda and how the farmer organizations can effectively engage in and access such programs to support their farms and livelihood rebuilding.
Among the presenters on public rehabilitation and recovery programs were representatives from the Comprehensive Yolanda Rehabilitation and Recovery Program (CYRRP) of the OPARR, Agriculture Rehabilitation and Recovery Program and Fishery/Aquatic Recovery Programme of the DA, Mangrove Rehabilitation and Beach Forest Development of the DENR, and, Land Tenure/Security for Yolanda Farmer Victims of the DAR.
Other presenters on public programmes for poverty alleviation include representatives from Community Based Enterprise and Livelihood Cluster of the DTI, Programme on DRRM and Poverty Alleviation of the DILG, Agricultural Workers Programme of the DOLE, Vocational Skills Development Programme from TESDA, National Organic Agriculture Program of the DA-ATI, and from the Lnadbank.
The RTD also served as venue for discussing opportunities and challenges on the Coconut Levy Fund.
