As part of the continuing advocacy of AsiaDHRRA towards promotion of fair agricultural trade, a delegation was sent, together with the AFA Chairperson, to actively participate in the CSO Strategy Meeting on G33 which ran parallel to the meeting of G33 officials in Jakarta from March 20-21. The CSO parallel meeting was organized by the G-33 CSO Alliance, People Coalition for Food Sovereignty – Indonesia and RWAN. The partner DHRRA, Binadesa (InDHRRA) , is an active member of the national coalition.
AFA Chairperson Seo was one of the CSO representatives in the lunch dialogue with G33 officials. He also spoke about AFA’s efforts to protect farmers’ rights during the press conference. A position paper was crafted during the strategy meeting and was presented to the G33 official. The position paper (click here for full statement) reassured the G33 officials of the CSO support to SPs and SSM, while G33 officials also reassured CSOs that they will stand firm in their position. Among the officials they talked with are those from the Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, and China.
The CSO meeting ended with a planning session where the different groups consolidated their efforts and came up with common actions related to G33. The delegates from AFA and AsiaDHRRA shared their plans such as national and regional consultations on related issues and their interest in co-organizing activities related to G33. The proposal was warmly received by the conveners and CSO participants.
