Bankok, Thailand – The World Rural Forum and AsiaDHRRA organized a side event: “The Contribution of Family Farming in Achieving SDGs in Asia” on 31 March 2017at UN Conference Center, Bangkok, Thailand. This was organized as part of the 2017 Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development Forum (APFSD).
In the said side event, Dr. Daniel de Garibay, WRF Regional Coordinator for Asia-Pacific, discussed the policies needed for family farmers to better contribute to achieving SDGs 1, 2, and, 14 in the Asia-Pacific region. Ms. Mags Catindig, AsiaDHRRA Program Officer, presented the network’s regional policy paper on “Localizing SDGs and ASEAN Vision: The Role of Rural Development Organizations and People’s Organizations”. Dr. Katinka Weinberger, Chief, Environment and Development Policy Section, Environment and Development Division of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) acted as Discussant, while Dr. Hiroyuki Konuma, former FAO Assistant Director General for Asia-Pacific, served as Moderator of the side event.
The 2017 APFSD is a regional intergovernmental forum that convenes annually in preparation for UN High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
