Asiadhrra, represented by Ms. Marlene Ramirez will be among the speakers of the side-event entitled “Developing public policies towards sustainable family farming” to be held on Tuesday 8 October 2013 12.30 –14.00 at the FAO Iran Room in Rome, Italy. The activity is part of the official side-event of the CFS 40 and co-organized by the French and Philippine Governments.
Discussion Context:
Family farming is the first food and job provider in the world. It forms the basis of the major agricultural transitions in developed countries and the social base of most developing countries, contributing to supply local and domestic markets, but also regional and international ones.
Family Farming is a diverse but prominent model, resilient and scalable. To fight hunger and poverty and achieve sustainable natural resources man- agement, it is essential to develop public policies to support this model.
What is CFS?

The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) was set up in 1974 as an intergovernmental body to serve as a forum for review and follow up of food security policies. In 2009 the Committee went through a reform process to ensure that the voices of other stakeholders were heard in the global debate on food security and nutrition. The vision of the reformed CFS is to be the most inclusive international and intergovernmental platform for all stakeholders to work together in a coordinated way to ensure food security and nutrition for all. CFS was reformed to address short term crises but also long term structural issues. The Committee reports annually to Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).
