AsiaDHRRA to attend Asia Pacific Regional Implementation Meeting for the CSD-16

AsiaDHRRA will attend the Regional Implementation Meeting (RIM) for Asia and the Pacific for the 16th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-16) on 26-27 November 2007 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The RIM objective is to articulate Asian and Pacific concerns at the 16th and 17th sessions of the Commission for Sustainable Development, by assessing progress towards achieving the goals identified in international commitments to sustainable development, and identifying priority areas for policy attention.
Thematic areas:

  1. agriculture
  2. land;
  3. rural development;
  4. drought;
  5. desertification.

Target participating groups:
Governments of Asia and the Pacific ministries working in the thematic areas, planning officials, national sustainable development councils, economic and social development boards/councils; relevant civil society organization, international organizations.

Background
The Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) was created in December 1992 to ensure follow-up of outcomes from the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At the 11th session of the
Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), it was decided to review the implementation of Agenda 21, the Programme for Further Implementation of Agenda 21 and JPoI, in two-year cycles with each cycle focusing on clusters of specific thematic and cross-cutting issues.
