9 November 2021 via online- AsiaDHRRA speaks during the regional virtual workshop on Agroecological and Safe Food Systems transition for green, resilient and inclusive recovery in the ASEAN Region, organized through the ASSET project by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), the Group for Research and Technology Exchanges (GRET) and other ASSET project partners.
The multi-stakeholder regional workshop was proposed to share perspectives on the requirements for transition to agroecology and safe food systems. Workshop discussions will support the current initiative to produce ASEAN guidelines on sustainable agriculture, as provided under the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework and Implementation Plan, and in support of the ASEAN Vision and Strategic Plan. It will also feed into the Lao PDR-facilitated Initiative on Agroecology for the ASEAN (LICA) process and milestones.
AsiaDHRRA Secretary General, Ms. Marlene Ramirez, shared the roles of Farmers Organizations in the Policy Dialogue under Session 2.B: Policy dialogue and processes for scaling up agroecology and safe food system innovations, co-organized by FAO. She reiterated the value of movement building in the pursuit of processes that bring people and organizations together, for common advocacies and development agenda, bringing the FOs in the frontlines of advocacy work, with civil society organizations in support.
