AsiaDHRRA holds 11th General Assembly

Bali, Indonesia — AsiaDHRRA convened a regional forum cum 11th General Assembly in Prime Plaza Hotel, Sanur-Bali, Indonesia on 13-15 October 2018, hosted by Bina Desa. With the theme, “Advancing Rural Community Resiliency to Achieve SDG2030: The Role of Rural Development and Peoples’ Organizations”, DHRRA members together with strategic partner-peoples’ organizations, agri-agencies, council of leaders, development and intergovernmental bodies, and, government representatives from Indonesia gathered in the event.
Among the highlights of the event are the presentations from global, regional, and local partners such as UNESCAP, ASEAN CRN, and Indonesia Food Security Agency of Ministry on Climate Resiliency on their perspectives on climate resiliency of smallholder agriculture sector. Furthermore, select DHRRAs and partners shared their experiences in advancing climate resiliency in rural communities through grassroots initiatives. AsiaDHRRA’s Secretary General Marlene Ramirez also presented the initial results of the network’s case study on enhancing rural climate resiliency.
Moreover, during the business meeting a new set of AsiaDHRRA Executive Committee was elected for 2018-2022, as to: Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hong, Chairperson, Dr. Margarita de la Cruz, Vice Chairperson for Southeast sub-region, Dr. Sung Lee, Vice Chairperson for Northeast sub-region, Mr. Pan Sopheap Vice Chairperson for Mekong sub-region, and, Ms. Nanthini Ramalo, Women-at-Large Representative, while Ms. Marlene Ramirez was re-appointed as the Secretary General.
A simultaneous field visits at Maha Bhoga Marga Foundation and partner community Wanagri Village, and, at IDEP Foundation and partner community Candi Kuning Village concluded the three-day event.
