Asiadhrra and Agricord to jointly organize Session on Capacity Building in Practice during the Civil Society Policy Forum at the 2012 WB-IMF Annual Meetings


Asiadhrra is set to participate in the  Civil Society Policy Forum at the 2012 World Bank-International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings in Tokyo to be held on October 10, 2012 in Tokyo, Japan.
In partnership with Agricord, a network of agri-agencies in Europe, Africa and Asia, Asiadhrra is co-organizing the Session on Capacity Building in Practice: What Does it Mean for Farmers’ Organisations?
During the session Ms. Marlene Ramirez, Asiadhrra Secretary-General will give a presentation entitled “How Do Farmers’ Organisations Perceive the Impact of their Work?” and Mr.Ignace Coussement of Agricord will present “Lessons learned from the Farmers Fighting Poverty programme: The 17 key competences of farmers’ organisations, in 4 different work areas.”
The panel reactors include : AFA (Asian Farmers Association for Sustainable Rural Development) – SOCRATES BANUZUELA, National Coordinator, Pakisama, Philippines;  AsiaDHRRA – DWI ASTUTI, Executive Director, Binadesa/InDHRRA, Indonesia;  Asian Rural Institute –  TOMOKO ARAKAWA, Coordinator,  Japan;  and  IFAD –  MOHAMED BEAVOGUI,  Director, Partnership and Resource Mobilization & Senior Advisor to the President,  International Fund For Agricultural Development (IFAD), Rome.
The Farmers Fighting Poverty programme builds capacities of farmers’ organizations in more than 60 developing countries. Over the last 3 years, leaders and staff of these farmers’ organizations have been asked to formulate the key competences, for which capacity building is needed. The resulting 17 competences will be presented to the audience, covering issues such member participation, financial management, participatory policy making, providing access to resources, etc. In the same context of Farmers Fighting Poverty, AgriCord is making an inventory of the perceptions of farmer leaders from different countries in Asia and in Africa of the impact of their work. The session invites the audience to consider the concrete and specific objectives of capacity building, as well as the ways to monitor the impact of this work.
