AsiaDHRRA participated in the international workshop on “Transitioning Towards Agroecology and Regenerative Agriculture: A Contribution to Food Systems Transformation (TARASA23)” on 24-27 October 2023 at Siem Reap, Cambodia. The workshop aimed to learn and share various experiences on agroecology and regenerative agriculture to support farming and food systems transition in the Asia-Pacific region.
Agriculture and food systems transformations in the region are imperative hence, susceptible to land degradation and climate change. Agroecology contributes to linking agriculture practices to food systems. It is an effective process of improving agricultural capabilities by integrating ecological ethics into farming management systems to mitigate unsustainable food production practices, thus benefitting smallholder farmers in the region with limited access to knowledge, machinery services, technologies, and affordable inputs.
The gathering measured the lessons learned and success for future research and intervention in technologies, education, implementation, policy, and finances. Lastly, it seeks to draft an Agroecology coalition roadmap in the ASEAN region. The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Cambodia, and Conservation Agriculture and Sustainable Intensification Consortium (CASIC).
