The ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) organized the 2nd Regional Consultation Workshop on the Development of the ASEAN Declaration on the Prevention and Elimination of Child Labour in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 29-30 November 2023.  The gathering was hosted by Thailand’s Children’s Rights and represented by H.E. Khun Wanchai Roujanavong, in partnership with the government of Lao PDR as co-host.

AsiaDHRRA’s program manager, Ms. Luz Almagro Blanco, represented and participated in the workshop designed to serve as a culminating consultative meeting to consolidate a shared vision among ASEAN Member States for eradicating child labor.

AsiaDHRRA, an ASEAN accredited entity, joined nearly 60 participants from ASEAN sectoral bodies, entities, and dialogue and development partners to generate inputs for incorporation into the Declaration and to identify concrete steps to move forward for its eventual adoption on the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit in 2024.  The project addresses labor exploitation fishing in ASEAN (ALFA) and is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor.
