Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay, Philippines – Last January 26-27, 2017 a project launching on “Enhancing Collective Marketing of Grouper, Snapper, Sea Bass and other high value fish species” in Zamboanga Sibugay was organized by the Coalition of Municipal Fisherfolks Association of Zamboanga Sibugay (COMFAZS).
The project’s objective is to build an economy of scale for snapper, grouper, and seabass for collective marketing at the provincial level of Zamboanga Sibugay, in Mindanao, Philippines. Specifically, the project aims to:
- Improve the economic well-being of fishers through increased benefits of members from their fishing and fish farming activities through collective and better marketing arrangements;
- To promote fish farming and reduce fishing pressures and extraction of fish and marine resources;
- To advocate for appropriate local policies that favors sustainable coastal resource management;
- To support mangrove reforestation and protection efforts of COMFAZS and its members.
The launching was also attended by representatives from Kahugpungan sa mga Gagmayng Mangingisda sa Concepcion (KGMC), Xavier Agriculture Extension Service Foundation Inc. (XSFI). Mr. Florante Villas and Ms. Lorna David attended the project launching for AsiaDHRRA.
The project is supported by AsiaDHRRA under the Farmers’ Fighting Poverty program, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.
