AsiaDHRRA attended an Intersectoral Workshop on the ASEAN Roadmap for Eliminating the Worst Forms of Child Labour by 2025 on 4-6 November 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand. The event is also a Follow-Up to the ASEAN Declaration on Prevention of Child Labour, including Worst Forms of Child Labour, and gathered representatives from the International Labor Organization (ILO) and Addressing Labour Exploitation in Fishing in ASEAN (ALFA) Project, including relevant international organizations and NGOs.
Implementation progress and success stories of ASEAN Member States (AMS) were highlighted, including the identified gaps that need to be addressed were deliberated during the workshop. The participants similarly shared reflections on the link between child labor and the global supply chains, the importance of public-private partnerships, and budgeting to eliminate child labor, particularly in remote and hard-to-reach sectors such as mining, aquaculture, fisheries, and online exploitation, among others.
AsiaDHRRA’s recent “RISE-UP Project” is an EU-funded initiative on “Harnessing CSO Capacities for Eliminating Child Labour (ECL) Action through Multistakeholder Partnerships and Agri-entrepreneurship,” contributes to the effective elimination of child labour in the agriculture sector through strong rural people’s organizations targeted in the provinces of Bukidnon, Davao del Norte, and Maguindanao del Norte. The project is in partnership with Kaanib Foundation Inc., Community Organizers Multiversity (COM), and PhilDHRRA.
