The World Rural Forum (WRF) will hold an international seminar on family farming entitled “A Future For Smallholder Family Farming” on 10 March, 2009 in Bilbao, Spain.
The Seminar aspires to promote feasible proposals aimed at defending family agriculture in the North and South and at informing about and providing ideas on the fundamental role performed by family Agriculture in Economic and Human Development in general.
Among the issues to be discussed include:
- Developing a competitive agricultural sector, which is at the same time respectful with the environment and resources.
- Production of healthy, quality foodstuffs.
- Responding to the needs of the persons dedicated to this activity, ensuring a fair return for their efforts.
- Agricultural and livestock farmers constantly demonstrate their capacity to adapt to changes both in consumption and in society. Forty years of continuous price falls.
- The challenge of feeding a population of 9-10 billion people in 2050. What kind of food are we talking about?
