The Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD) in coordination with VietDHRRA and ASSET Project, recently organized the National Consultation to promote Agroecology in the context of ASEAN on 7 June 2024, at Hanoi Hotel Club, Hanoi, Vietnam, and Zoom conference. The gathering was an integral part of a series of national consultations in ASEAN member states under the framework of cooperation on the ASEAN Sectoral Working Group on Crops (ASWGC) and the 43rd Special Senior Officials Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (SOM-AMAF), based on Lao-Faciliated Initiative on Agroecology for ASEAN (LICA).
The technical consultation served as a platform to share various agroecology initiatives by farmers and non-governmental organizations, including experiences and perspectives from research development organizations in the country. In addition, the event generated inputs and recommendations to develop partnerships and mechanisms to support agroecology and concrete actions on national and regional levels promoting agroecology and sustainable agriculture.
Lastly, representatives from Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UNFAO), the French Embassy, LICA, the Agroecology Learning alliance in South East Asia (ALiSEA), and the Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique Pour le développement (CIRAD) attended and participated in the occasion.
