29 June 2022 – The Asian Partnership for the Development of Human Resources in Rural Areas (AsiaDHRRA), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Asian Farmers Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA), La Via Campesina, and the Pacific Island Farmers Organisation Network (PIFON), co-organized the Regional Dialogue on Family Farming in Asia and the Pacific on 29 June 2022 via online
Muhammad Nur of Komunitas Swabina Pedesaan Salassae (KSPS) presented the initiatives, lessons, and challenges faced by their organization during Session 3 – Technical discussion on the contribution of Family Farmers Organization to sustainable and climate-resilient food systems. KSPS is a farmers’ organization in Indonesia supported by AsiaDHRRA’s Farmers for Asia (FO4A) program.
Additionally, Ms. Mags Catindig, AsiaDHRRA’s Assistant Secretary-General, presented AsiaDHRRA’s recommendations and ways forward to the upcoming Global Dialogues on UNDFF and in the succeeding years of UNDFF implementation in the region. She highlighted the role of advisory services to supporting family farmers in varying levels of transitioning to agroecological food systems, to invest in organizing, educating, and capacitating rural youth and women, to facilitate and sustaining strategic on-ground and multi-stakeholder actions, and to champion territorial rural development as an approach to support sustainable growth and development of FOs.
