The experience of COMFAS is featured in the joint #FAO–#AgriCord publication: “Forest and farm producer organizations building resilience – strength in numbers and landscapes.” The Coalition of Municipal Fishers of Zamboanga Sibugay (COMFAS) is a federation of 34 municipal fishers’ associations in the province. Its Chairperson, Ka Dodoy Robert Ballon, is among the recent 63rd Ramon Magsaysay Awardees.In the last 15 years, COMFAS has reforested around 9,000 hectares of mangrove forest with support from various national and local government agencies and civil society organizations. Their reforestation efforts boosted the volume of their fish catches over the years. AsiaDHRRA supports COMFAS’ fishery-based enterprises, including improving their production capacity and developing their marketing strategies.
