DHRRAW 2004 to be held on August 9-13, 2004

The AsiaDHHRA 2004 Workshop celebrating AsiaDHRRA’s 30th anniversary will finally take place in August 9-13, 2004 at the Development Academy of the Philippines Conference Center in Tagaytay City, Philippines. Our member in the Philippines, PhilDHRRA, whose pioneers and leaders are in the forefront of pursuing a wide range of social development initiatives, is generously co-hosting this important event for the regional network.
The 30th Anniversary will be an occasion to assess AsiaDHRRA’s contribution to Asian rural development by reflecting on the milestones of each member DHRRA in their countries and by showcasing selected NGO “best practices”, to draw lessons needed for replication, mainstreaming, and policy reform towards a more sustainable rural development. A review and updating of the UN Millenium Development Goals will also take place that hopefully could be referred to by the DHRRA network when it defines its road map in the next decade.
At least a hundred development practitioners and leaders from 12 Asian countries, primarily from Southeast Asia are expected to participate. Invited as well are representatives from government and multilateral institutions and partners from the donor community. Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has been invited to be the Guest of Honor and Speaker during the opening ceremony.
