AsiaDHRRA, PhilDHRRA, Christian Aid, share results of the Post-Mangkhut Agricultural and Livelihood Assessment

Quezon City – AsiaDHRRA, in partnership with PhilDHRRA, with support from Christian Aid, conducts a “Presentation/Sharing of Scoping Results with Multi-stakeholder Groups” at Microtel by Wyndham, UP Technohub, Quezon City.

The activity presented the result from the 6-month scoping study entitled “Agriculture and Livelihood Assessment in Mangkhut-affected Areas” conducted in May 2019, which aimed at gathering key information about farming households and communities to identify opportunities for short and medium-term agricultural and livelihood rebuilding that will respond to food and nutrition security in the affected communities. A good foundation to a successful rebuilding is having sound information to guide the design of a post disaster cooperation, including the presence of organized local associations and service providers, the efforts of the LGUs and other stakeholders in the area that could serve as building blocks, and the prospects of developing sustainable farming activities that will usher economic rebuilding, rural resiliency, and disaster preparedness in the context of climate change.

The study aimed to contribute towards the enhancement of AsiaDHRRA’s post-disaster rebuilding framework and programming in disaster-stricken areas in the Philippines and other vulnerable countries in Southeast Asia.

In the event, the Pampangga Disaster Response Network, Inc. shared their learnings on post-disaster rebuilding.

One of the highlighted recommendations is the building of local power through organized communities and engaging partnerships at different levels. Moreover, AsiaDHRRA Secretary General, Ms. Marlene Ramirez emphasized that “we need to buckle down to explore possibilities of working together, encouraged by the commitment of local partners and the opportunity of working with local peoples’ associations representing family farmers and the rural poor.”
