AsiaDHRRA co-organizes 2017 ASEAN Civil Society Conference—ASEAN Peoples’ Forum 2017

Quezon City, Philippines – AsiaDHRRA co-organized the 2017 ASEAN Civil Society Conference/ ASEAN Peoples’ Forum, with the theme: “Beyond Boundaries: Strengthening Peoples’ Solidarities for a Just, Equitable, and Humane Southeast Asia,” held on 10 – 13 November 2017 at the University of the Philippines Diliman. It was attended by various civil society organizations and people’s organizations, across the ASEAN Region.

The event focused on highlighting and strengthening Asean peoples’ solidarities and convergences in building alternative forms of regionalism towards a just, equitable and humane Southeast Asia. The forum also tried to re-conceptualize civil society engagement with ASEAN based on principles of non- discrimination and autonomy of CSOs.

AsiaDHRRA, together with Oxfam, Action Aid, and PAN-AP, hosted one of the sub-workshops within Convergence Space on Corporate Greed and Power: “Identifying impact and threats to communities”. The sub-workshop objective was to better understand corporate greed and power and its impact to local communities’ lives, especially to food sovereignty vis-à-vis land rights.
