AsiaDHRRA participated in a side event on “Harnessing agroecology through partnerships to transform food systems” organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the Centre for International Cooperation and Agricultural Research for Development (CIRAD) on 29 March 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand.  The forum was held during the 10th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD), which aims to strengthen multilateral and multi-stakeholder cooperation through increased awareness of the opportunities and practices and opportunities for partnership development on agroecology transition.

What are the needs to accelerate the uptake of agroecology approaches to support food system transformation?  “As resources are limited, we can do more & succeed more if we work together.  Agroecology is a key consideration in the next ASEAN Master Plan for Rural Development, with family farmers & territorial approaches at its core,” said Marlene Ramirez, AsiaDHRRA, Secretary-General.

APFSD is an annual intergovernmental forum to follow up on the progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asia-Pacific.  This year, the meeting was organized with the theme “Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19)”.
