Myanmar Cyclone Relief

As you may have already heard, Cyclone Nargis severely devastated Myanmar. Based on reports, the extent of the devastation from the catastrophic cyclone is slowly unfolding. In the state run media it was reported last week that 10,000 people were killed in Bogalay town alone in the Irrawaddy Delta region. The total death toll as of last week is at 22,464 and expected to rise while 41,000 more remain missing. It is estimated that up to a million people may be displaced.

MyanDHRRA, our member in Myanmar, has undertaken relief efforts to assist the affected communities. Naw Khin, Vice President of MyanDHRRA) relayed to us via email that

“Our situation here is not good any more. We have no electricity, not enough water and sanitation, prices of goods and commodities are very high. Especially, the prices of gasoline for communication are getting high. Live here is like hell already. Even here in Yangon, how much more with the situation of our communities that affected by the Cyclone Nargis?”

We would like to appeal for donations to the relief efforts being undertaken by our DHRRA member in Myanmar.
