Dr. Wen-Chi Huang presents ROC country paper on Agro-tourism workshop

Dr. Wen-Chi Huang, TaiwanDHRRA President together with Ms. Li-Lan Liao presented the ROC Country paper on Agro-tourism Development for Creation of Rural Jobs and Diversified Income in Taiwan during the Workshop on Agro-tourism Development for Creation of Rural Jobs and Diversified Income held on 4-8 Nov 2008 in Bandung, Indonesia.

The workshop was organized by the Asian Productivity Organization and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Republic of Indonesia and Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, Republic of Indonesia.

AsiaDHRRA conducts Altour Workshop

AsiaDHRRA and PhilDHRRA Luzon conducted an Altour workshop last November 7, 2007 at the PhilDHRRA Partnership Center in Quezon City. The workshop was participated by PhilDHRRA Luzon members who have altour interest and initiatives, namely Fundacion Santiago, Otradev Foundation, LIKAS, ICDAI, ASCODE Foundation, NORLUCEDEC & Batanes Development Foundation, Inc.

The workshop resulted in an initial assessment of the existing and potential sites, products or services that each group may offer in their communities as well as identification of gaps and critical activities and interventions needed to meet minimum standards for ecotourism. Several tour packages were also drafted for further review, fine – tuning and validation. Follow through workshops will be scheduled to address the capacity building needs of key stakeholders and social preparations of host communities. The group agreed that a regional proposal on ecotourism will be developed to mobilize resources for an integrated eco tour program for PhilDHRRA.

The workshop is part of AsiaDHRRA’s planned community – based alternative tourism program dubbed “Learning while Travelling”.

AsiaDHRRA, will conduct a workshop on alternative tourism tomorrow, November 7, 2007 at the Partnership Center in Quezon City, Philippines. It will be participated in by several Phildhrra network members. The workshop to be spearheaded by Ms. Lorna David, aims to;

To present the altour program concept of AsiaDHRRA
To know the tourism thrusts and updates in the Philippines
To present the different altour concepts and models
To determine capacities and preparedness of the members of PhilDHRRA
To conduct a preliminary assessment of the existing and potential ecotourism destinations
To identify strengths, potentials, needs and gaps of the members of PhilDHRRA on altour
To define the AsiaDHRRA-PhilDHRRA members partnership framework on altour program

AsiaDHRRA participates in Philippines Altour Planning Workshop

Ms. Lorna David, AsiaDHRRA CBRMD Program officer, is set to participate in the Provincial Ecotourism Research Validation and Planning Workshop to be held on October 10-11, 2007, in the Irosin Sorsogon, Philippines. The workshop is being conducted by LIKAS, a Sorsogon-based NGO with the support of Peace and Equity Foundation, the Foundation for Sustainable Society, Incorporated, and the Foundation for the Philippine Environment

The workshop is being conducted to validate the results of the research conducted by LIKAS on ecotourism in the Province. The research focused on three areas which are critical in establishing an environmentally sustainable market-based ecotourism program for the province of Sorsogon. These were ecotourism sites assessment, market research and labor and skills sector study.

This Provincial Ecotourism Research Validation and Planning Workshop will be the venue for validating the research findings and results, and crafting the provincial ecotourism framework plan and identifying the potential tourism niches of the Province other than being the whale shark capital of the region. The need to formulate an ecotourism plan which will provide the framework for the development of a more sustainable and viable tourism industry in the province was identified in the initial multi-sectoral consultations and planning in 2005.

AsiaDHRRA’s participation in the workshop is expected to provide valuable insights and perspectives that would be useful in drafting and eventually launching our Altour Program.
